Los Angeles-based independent singer-songwriter Hailey Hermida is set to release a brand-new song titled “HowTheseThingsGo” with producer and songwriter Nathan Arenas on July 1. The fast-paced song pairs energetic guitar riffs and electronic sounds from the 1980s with Hailey’s modern vocal.

Hailey began keeping a journal to help her absorb the Covid-19 pandemic-related occurrences, which later served as the basis for songs. Hailey went back to these diary entries to build her own songwriting after watching Billie Eilish’s The World’s a Little Blurry documentary on Apple TV+

.

“It was really helpful to see Billie’s writing process and how she would take something from her life that perhaps wasn’t the happiest memory, and turn it into a beautiful song that made people feel something,” said Hermida.

The song “HowTheseThingsGo” was created out of frustration during a period when things felt like people had no control over anything, reflected Hailey. Everyone, in the artist’s opinion, experiences times when it seems as though everything is conspiring against them. Co-written with Nathan Arenas, the new track has an eclectic 80s vibe. When paired with the lyrics of their newest song, the lively track promotes perseverance in the face of adversity.

Known as “the GOAT” thanks to a viral TikTok video that has amassed over 30 million views to date, Hailey and her family share funny and relatable content about their everyday lives to half a million followers.

Hailey’s family relocated to Los Angeles from Texas when she was seven years old on the advice of talent agent Linda McAlister, who saw potential in young Hailey. Over the years, Hailey has appeared in national commercials, radio spots, animated movies and series, and short films.

Early childhood was the beginning of Hailey’s musical influences. Hailey’s interest in singing was encouraged by her grandma, who is also a singer. On the occasion of her ninth birthday, Hailey gave her debut stage performance while being supported by a live band. In addition to her singing and live performance activities, Hailey’s vocal instructor urged her to start taking piano lessons.

Nathan was raised in a musical family and started writing songs after receiving a guitar for Christmas. Later, he gained proficiency with keyboards and music-production software, and during the past three years, he has devoted himself to learning how to create his own music in his bedroom’s closet “studio.”

When Hailey and Nathan were pre-teens, they first connected on the set of a national Kia commercial and grew close over a love of music. The two musicians, who are now fourteen and sixteen, are working together on a number of musical projects, including “HowTheseThingsGo.”

After the new song is out, Hailey and Nathan will continue working on their upcoming EP and other musical endeavours with more information being released soon.

HowTheseThingsGo will be available on July 1, 2022, via streaming services including Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music, and more.
